Why is this landmark worth YOUR time??

The Highline is a landmark because it came from a historic freight line. Residents of New York City AND tourists should visit the Highline because it has history and is an amazing place to be.

Foundation and Function

The materials used to build the Highline was cement, railroad tracks, greenery, etc... The Highline was also used as a public park for people's entertainment, and leisure.

Background Knowledge

  • This site opened in 2009
  • It runs from 13th street to 34th street on the west side of Manhattan 
  • James Corner Field Operations was the architect for this project
  • The neighborhood it's in is Chelsea
  • 1.45 miles long and 20-30 feet above roadway
  • The A, C, and E trains are right near the 13th street entrance. The 1 trains is also fairly close to the 13th street entrance. The C and E train is near 23rd street, a few blocks away from the Highline.
  • It will take about 12 minutes to drive to the Highline via 5th ave and W 43rd St. The NQR is also near the hotel.
